Argentina on Their Way to the World Cup Finals
Argentina have secured their spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals after a 3-0 victory over Croatia on Tuesday, 13 December.
The match – which took place at Lusail Stadium in Qatar – began with rousing renditions of both team’s anthems before things kicked off. Argentina captain Lionel Messi opened the scoreboard with a penalty at the 34th minute, earning his fifth goal of the World Cup.
Five minutes later, striker Julián Álvarez secured the second goal of the match and for his side through sheer perseverance as he left Croatia’s defenders trailing in his wake.
At the 69-minute mark, Álvarez claimed the final goal of the match with an assist from his captain as the two weaved up the field towards the byline together.
Pundits have declared Messi “the greatest player of all time” after his latest performance, however the 35-year-old has revealed that the final game on Sunday, 18 December, will be his last World Cup match.
The South American team will find out who they will be playing tonight, 14 December, as France and Morocco go head-to-head in an attempt to secure their spot.
